War of the Worlds Anniversary Radio Play

October 24, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Kearny Public Library is very pleased to present a special anniversary presentation of War of the Worlds on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 PM, featuring our friends from Raconteur Radio, a group that has previously brought us The Wizard of Oz and The Empire Strikes Back.

War of the Worlds will be presented as a vintage radio play by actors from Raconteur Radio.  The production will be staged around and amplified by a standing, fully functioning antique microphone and will feature costumes, theatrical lighting and live sound effects.  2018 marks the 80th anniversary of the famed Orson Welles broadcast, a Halloween episode of The Mercury Theatre on the Air in 1938, which fooled many people into believing the earth was actually being invaded by aliens!

Raconteur Ventures is an extension of the late and legendary Raconteur bookstore in Metuchen, New Jersey, which closed in 2012. Raconteur Radio debuts a new show every month at their home theater, the Old Franklin School, a historic one-room school house built in 1807.  Past productions include Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, The Hobbit, The Great Gatsby, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

This show will be free of charge and open to all interested. Seats will be limited on a first come-first serve basis.  The Kearny Public Library is located at 318 Kearny Ave. in Kearny, NJ.  For more information on this or other programs, please call (201) 998-2666 or visit our website at www.kearnylibrary.org.
